Into Nova Scotia

After 8 days on Prince Edward Island, we say our goodbyes. Has been great visiting Uncle Gary and Aunt Judy. Had a wonderful time riding with the Langford group and we are off to explore more of Canada. Arrived in Truro NS to the Scotia Pines Campground after driving through rain coming off the island. The rest of the day rain threatened but was able to change oil on the bike and give it a good checkover before sprinkling started. Caught up on some news.

Danny's Day #2

Big Day for Danny. Met his sister Mary and brother Dean for breakfast then headed west up the island to where his family lived. He took us to the North Cape which is the northern most tip of the island with a 300 degree view of water. Lots of wind crossing this tip of land, they built a wind farm there with an interpretation centre. Very cool. At the tip of the north cape is the longest rock reef in North America extending out about 2 kilometres. Hazardous to boats as you can walk out on it for over a kilometre at low tide. Lots of birds and wildlife.

Rode down to West Point to Danny's family's stomping grounds on the beach of Northumberland Strait. Danny's father built a subdivision and he still has lots there. Met more friends, then down the road to where they buried his father. Little surreal, as graveyards tend to be. Then to the West Point lighthouse where Danny's Great Great Grandfather was the lighthouse keeper. Many areas and things named after his family. Down to O'Leary for fries with the works, PEI's version of poutine. Has hamburger, peas and gravy on top.... Simply Yummy!

Danny's brother Dean joined us for dinner. After dinner, went back to the motel and said our goodbyes. Its been Julie and my pleasure to meet up with Randy, Vivian and Danny again. Meeting brother Gord from South Carolina was wonderful. Meeting brother Jerry and wife Lisa was also great and looking forward to another visit in Saint John's, once we arrive in Newfoundland. They have all been a pleasure to ride with. Very good riders that ride well together. Made us feel very welcome to be part of their group. Many thanks. Until we meet again...

Tour director Danny

Arrived at the motel where the Langford crew is staying to start the ride day out. Danny is tour guide today as he and his family have a long history on the island. Took us to see one of his old haunts and his cousin Alice-Ann has a cottage. Dropped into see her and her friends, then marched down the street to a beautiful beach. Apparently some of the warmest beaches on PEI.

After a nice visit and walk on the beach, on the way down the road to the north east end of the island through Souris and back.  Weather was warm. Back for beer and dinner. We came back to the campsite to shower and walk Kyle. He is always glad to see us. Kyle has been absolutely wonderful on this whole trip.

Rode towards Confederation Bridge and the shores around. Weather was threatening, but continued to get better. Found a knoll with beautiful potato fields in bloom. The scent of these blooms were exquisite.

Took Gary and Judy for lobster dinner at the New Glasgow Lobster Suppers. Was a great dinner with all you can eat mussels, chowder, salad and dessert. Menu has been expanded to include more than lobsters. Gary had scallops and Judy had Haddock. Yummy!

Goodbye and Hello

All good visits must come to an end. We had to say our goodbyes to Uncle Gary and Aunt Judy. They have a lovely location and home in the little community of Canoe Cove. Thank you!

Met up with our friends Randy, Vivian and Danny from Ottawa. Met his brothers Jerry and wife Lisa and Gordon. They started their riding trip a week ago, picking up family along the way. Arrived in Danny's old stomping grounds of Summerside. Just after our arrival at their hotel, skies opened up with a traditional PEI welcoming.

Rode into Charlottetown to Province House where the original Constitution was signed. Unfortunately it was closed for renovations. An exhibit was open next door.

Rode to Green Gables. They have made a real tourist area. In the vicinity there are theme parks and go cart tracks and all sorts of things to entertain children.

Port-La-Joye - Fort Amherst

Took a ride by myself today because I realized we have different interests and with only a few days on the island, we wouldn't experience enough of it at their pace. They are not very happy with me.

Rode to Port-La-Joye - Fort Amherst. To acknowledge both the French that first occupied the area and then the British seized it, is double named. Strategic point at the mouth of the harbor where Charlottetown is situated.

Then rode to Cardegon and back in time for dinner with Gary and Judy's friends. Very nice local people.

Shopping day. Went into Charlottetown. After shopping, had lunch at one of Gary and Judy's many haunts. On the way back, saw the perfect shop for tee-shirts. Got my bike out and went back to do my own shopping. Talked to a number of people, one being a New Foundlander and again warned about Moose. Found some animal alert whistles for the truck. Have had these type of whistles on my motorcycles for many years. I believe in them. Another great dinner (homemade seafood soup) more like a stew, but great none the less.

Greenwich Park

Gary and Judy took us out to Greenwich Park. A national park on the east side of the island. It consists of lakes and white sand dunes along the Gulf of St Lawrence. Very beautiful, very sensitive ecological area.

Then into town to buy the fresh mussels for a special Aunt Judy dinner. Hmmmm.
