Sumerside and Lobster dinner

Rode towards Confederation Bridge and the shores around. Weather was threatening, but continued to get better. Found a knoll with beautiful potato fields in bloom. The scent of these blooms were exquisite.

Took Gary and Judy for lobster dinner at the New Glasgow Lobster Suppers. Was a great dinner with all you can eat mussels, chowder, salad and dessert. Menu has been expanded to include more than lobsters. Gary had scallops and Judy had Haddock. Yummy!

Goodbye and Hello

All good visits must come to an end. We had to say our goodbyes to Uncle Gary and Aunt Judy. They have a lovely location and home in the little community of Canoe Cove. Thank you!

Met up with our friends Randy, Vivian and Danny from Ottawa. Met his brothers Jerry and wife Lisa and Gordon. They started their riding trip a week ago, picking up family along the way. Arrived in Danny's old stomping grounds of Summerside. Just after our arrival at their hotel, skies opened up with a traditional PEI welcoming.

Province House and Green Gables

Rode into Charlottetown to Province House where the original Constitution was signed. Unfortunately it was closed for renovations. An exhibit was open next door.

Rode to Green Gables. They have made a real tourist area. In the vicinity there are theme parks and go cart tracks and all sorts of things to entertain children.

Port-La-Joye - Fort Amherst

Took a ride by myself today because I realized we have different interests and with only a few days on the island, we wouldn't experience enough of it at their pace. They are not very happy with me.

Rode to Port-La-Joye - Fort Amherst. To acknowledge both the French that first occupied the area and then the British seized it, is double named. Strategic point at the mouth of the harbor where Charlottetown is situated.

Then rode to Cardegon and back in time for dinner with Gary and Judy's friends. Very nice local people.

Shopping day. Went into Charlottetown. After shopping, had lunch at one of Gary and Judy's many haunts. On the way back, saw the perfect shop for tee-shirts. Got my bike out and went back to do my own shopping. Talked to a number of people, one being a New Foundlander and again warned about Moose. Found some animal alert whistles for the truck. Have had these type of whistles on my motorcycles for many years. I believe in them. Another great dinner (homemade seafood soup) more like a stew, but great none the less.

Greenwich Park

Gary and Judy took us out to Greenwich Park. A national park on the east side of the island. It consists of lakes and white sand dunes along the Gulf of St Lawrence. Very beautiful, very sensitive ecological area.

Then into town to buy the fresh mussels for a special Aunt Judy dinner. Hmmmm.

Ceilidh (Kay lee)

Spent much of the day eating great food, Aunt Judy is a wonderful chef. Watched golf "The Open" as they are enthusiasts and was a super close game. After dinner, went to our first Ceilidh. At the community hall, people came to watch local musicians, Tip-er Back. Yes, they like to have a sip or two, but no alcohol at the Ceilidh. Lots of fun, excellent music and a"lunch". There were 2 lads from Halifax that came to sing a few songs with a fiddle, mandolin and guitar. Also 2 local sisters performed Celtic step dancing. Excellent evening.

Prince Edward Island

Had to check out the Magnetic Hill in Moncton NB. Just 35 minutes away from last night's campground in Shediac.  Paid our $6 to drive up a dead end road and turn around. This thing is so hoakie its ridiculous. Basically the road has a dual slope with a small up hill at the bottom end to slow the car down as it rolls back to the start point that they want you to believe is going downhill, but its not. Even to an untrained eye, it looks silly. Oh well we paid our 6 bucks. They got their pound of flesh from us.

Down the road to the Confederation Bridge to cross over into Prince Edward Island.  Very impressive. Surprised how high we were off the water. Longest bridge in the world across water that freezes in the winter.

Arrived at Uncle Gary and Aunt Judy's place at Canoe Cove about 40 minutes after crossing the bridge. Been looking forward the visit with them ever since our trip preparations began. As expected, they have many activities planned for us. Looking forward to them all as they are very interesting people that love to do very interesting things.
