Cape Anguille and Rose Blanche

Middle of the night rain decided to bless this area so we were in no rush to get started in the morning. After the moisture evaporated off the road, we started our tour of the south western most part of the island around Port aux Basque. The Codroy Valley has some of the most fertile soil on the island. 15 small communities, and Cape Anguille is the most westerly point on Newfoundland.

A calm day

Then down the road and came across Chap the collector... Nice old guy, has a private museum so that he can talk to people...

Down the road to Cape Ray where the first telegraph cable came across from the mainland in 1856 and was part of the transatlantic cable system linking the North America with Europe.

Headed to the south coast east of Port aux Basque. The town of Isle aux Morts was having a homecoming celebration for people who have left their community. This happens every 5 years and the whole town was decorated, many families on their porches partying, as we rode past. Looked like a great time for all. Rode to Harvey's Trial where Harvey, his daughter and their dog "Hairyman" saved 173 people from a shipwreck back in the 1870s.

Loved the landscape around here. As we rode, the road was curving and undulating around many small ponds in the rock, very few trees. Pavement was bumpy and broken in areas but the scenery made up the road surface because you just wanted to drive slowly and take in the scenery.

Another little picturesque little town on the coast, called Burnt Island.

Lastly , we came to the end of the road at Rose Blanche. Beautiful little town, made famous for its Stone lighthouse. Went to see it but they wanted $6 per person to walk out to it. Felt the price too high for another look at another lighthouse. I am sure we are going to see many more!

Notice the lighthouse on the hill behind.

Great day, great area, Great ride.
